My old habit of taking every single certification test was a waste of time

For about 3 years I'd sign up for any IT cert that sounded good, spent around $2,000 on exams at a testing center in Denver, and ended up with a stack of papers I never used. A senior dev told me straight up that employers only care about experience and one or two key certs, not a pile of them. Has anyone else cut back on certs and focused on building actual projects instead?

Got a stack of CompTIA papers in a drawer somewhere collecting dust. Took one Linux cert just to get an interview and that was the only one that ever mattered.

CompTIA A+ got me my first IT job way back when, so they're not ALL useless.
