Showerthought: the $35 late fee I almost didn't charge got paid in 2 days after sitting for 4 months
A guy I do tree work for in Beaverton ran 4 months past due on a $1,200 removal job, and I kept letting it slide because I hated being the money guy. My old boss, who I never liked, once said to always put a late fee in the contract because people pay fines faster than favors. I finally added a $35 late fee line to the invoice, and he paid the whole thing in 2 days. I don't get why it worked, but it did. Anyone else notice that people move faster on a fee than a friendly reminder?
That thing your old boss said about people paying fines faster than favors is dead on. I started adding a 5% late fee on my invoices after getting burned too many times, and it's funny how fast folks find their checkbook once there's a number attached.
