Spent $300 on a LinkedIn profile writer and got zero interviews in 3 months

Hired some guy from a gig site to rewrite my profile and it sounded fake as hell - nobody even looked at my page. Anyone else get burned paying for fancy resume help instead of just talking to people in your industry?

Paid a resume writer once and got back a profile that made me sound like I ran a fortune 500 company when I was just a shift lead at a warehouse. @kimr91 nailed it with the "synergistic leader" garbage, I had the exact same stuff all over mine. Worst part is I actually paid extra for the "premium package" and it still looked like a robot puked buzzwords onto the page. Had a recruiter friend look at it and she laughed out loud, said it sounded like I was trying too hard to be important. Deleting that mess and rewriting it as myself was the best move, even if my real self is just "guy who shows up on time and doesn't steal office supplies.

Your profile sounded fake as hell" - that's exactly what happened to me too. I paid someone $250 to rewrite my LinkedIn and they used all these corporate buzzwords like "synergistic leader" and "results-driven innovator." My own mom didn't recognize it when she saw it. Honestly, the best thing I ever did was just delete that garbage and write it myself, talking like a normal human being. I still get zero interviews though, so maybe I'm not the best example. At least now when people look at my page, they don't laugh at how fake it sounds.

Why does a LinkedIn profile even matter that much?
