Three years to finally listen to my dad about business insurance
I spent three years paying for a bare bones liability policy because my dad kept nagging me to get a proper umbrella policy. Last month a client's kid tripped over my hose and I found out my basic plan covers nothing, so now I'm paying out of pocket and kicking myself for not listening sooner. Anyone else have an old piece of advice they ignored way too long?

Man three years of winging it with insurance sounds about right for me too. My dad told me to get a separate business policy for my landscaping gear like five years ago and I just figured "eh, my homeowners probably covers it." Then my mower died in a weird way and I found out it wasn't covered at all. Ended up dropping way more than the premium would have been on a cheap used replacement that broke down two months later. Parental advice is basically the gift that keeps on stinging when you ignore it.

Used to think parents were just being paranoid with their insurance nagging but you're making me rethink that honestly. Definitely gonna ask my dad about my tools now before something stupid happens.

Parental advice is basically the gift that keeps on stinging when you ignore it" - yeah that about sums up my entire twenties lol. My dad kept telling me to get renters insurance for years and I was like "what's gonna happen, someone steals my crappy futon?" Then my laptop got swiped out of my car and I was out like a grand. It's wild how parents just know this stuff because they've already made the dumb mistakes themselves. Definitely bring it up with your dad, he'll probably be thrilled you're finally listening.
