TIL a simple trick to get past the 'no experience' job loop

I was applying for entry-level marketing jobs for 6 months with zero calls back. My friend told me to find a small local business with a bad social media page and redo it for free, then show that as my 'work'. I picked a pizza place in my town, ran their Instagram for a month, and grew their followers by 200. Put that project at the top of my resume and got 3 interviews the next week. Has anyone else tried making their own sample projects to break in?

Just make sure you get their permission first, before doing that for a business.

I mean, getting permission is the whole point of the project. They're already working with the pizza place, so that step is done. It's not really a separate thing you do before.

That pizza place project was a smart move.
