Appreciation post: the $9 plastic coping foot that I called junk for 3 months
A guy named Sal who runs trim crews out of Worcester talked me into trying a coping foot on my jigsaw back in April, and I honestly thought it was one of those gimmick add-ons that just gets in the way of the shoe. I finally bolted it on during a crown job on a 14 by 18 room, mostly because I was tired of nicking my knuckles with the file. First couple cuts felt weird and wobbly, I'll admit, but by the fifth piece I was cutting copes in about 40 seconds flat and they fit tight enough that the caulk tube stayed in the truck. That foot paid for itself in one afternoon. It keeps the blade at an angle so you can follow the profile line without fighting the saw. I still finish the back cut with a rasp out of habit, but the saw does about 90 percent of the work now. Anybody got a trick for keeping the foot from scarring up soft pine, or do you just live with it?
