Blew out the base of a 6x6 post in Naperville and had to dig out 14 bags of quickrete
Setting a mailbox post for a buddy two Saturdays back, I dumped all 14 bags of quickrete in dry, added water on top, and it set up like gravel with pockets you could poke a pencil through. Pulled the whole thing out, mixed it in a wheelbarrow in small batches instead, and that post has not budged since. Any of you mix dry in the hole on purpose or is that just a shortcut that keeps burning me?

Did you even tamp it down before you walked away? Dry packing works fine if you actually soak it proper and poke it with a stick to get the water down in there, millions of fence posts get set that way. Sounds like user error honestly, not the method.
