I found a trick to silence creaky steps without removing them

When stairs squeak, it's often from loose boards rubbing. I use a bit of powdered graphite in the joints, which lubricates without attracting dust like oil does. What do you guys use for this?

Graphite is a lifesaver for squeaky stairs! I tried talcum powder once and it worked almost as well.

Notice how many annoying problems have stupid simple fixes we just never think to try. It's like we get used to the squeak and forget a little powder could shut it up for good.
