Overheard a homeowner say 'anyone can nail two boards together'

Was at a supply yard near Denver yesterday getting my lumber order together. This guy in line was telling his buddy he could build his own deck this weekend since "anyone can nail two boards together." I mean, I just stood there holding my print for a 3-tier pergola thinking about all the math and leveling that goes into stuff that looks simple. You ever hear someone totally dismiss what we do and just have to bite your tongue?

Feel you @robin896, I was literally gripping my tape measure so hard my knuckles went white. People see a finished deck and think it just magically stays level and square on its own.

Don't you just hate when people act like our trade is just banging nails? I had to walk away from a guy at Home Depot last week who said the same thing about framing.

My buddy Ron had a similar thing happen at his local lumber place. He was picking up materials for a curved retaining wall and some guy in line said building walls was just stacking bricks. Ron just stood there quiet while the guy in front of him laughed about it. Took everything he had not to pull out his level and show him the bubble floating dead center on a long spirit level.
