Saw a stat that 80% of deck failures happen at the post-to-beam connection, figured that out after my own deck sagged 2 inches in 3 years
Found that number in a Fine Homebuilding article from last month and it made me realize I didn't bolt my ledger board right the first time around. Anybody else catch something basic like that after the fact?

My uncle's deck collapsed at a party back in '07, took out a whole grill and a cooler of beer. Turns out he just nailed the ledger board straight into the siding like it was a picture frame. Honestly, I spent a whole weekend last year redoing my own deck after reading that same article and realizing my bolts were half a size too small. Ngl, I felt pretty dumb staring at the hardware store aisle for twenty minutes trying to match the right lag screws. Tbh, I think half the deck problems out there are just people like me who watched one YouTube video and thought "yeah, I got this.
