Serious question, are you guys checking your nail gun depth on every new box?
I saw a guy in my crew sink a 3 inch framing nail straight through a treated 2x10 last week. Turns out the new box of nails had a different collar length, maybe 1/16 inch off. The gun was set for the old batch. It punched right through and almost hit a pipe. Anyone else run into this with different nail brands?

Ever test fire into scrap first?

Honestly, @the_elizabeth brought up a good point about treated wood, but what about testing when you're switching between different power settings on your gun? Does that change things too, or is it mostly just the nail collation that messes you up?

Yeah, that'll make you pucker up real quick. Seen it happen more than once, honestly. Always test fire a couple into some scrap from the same board you're working on when you crack open a new box. Takes two seconds and saves a world of trouble, especially with treated wood. Those collar specs can vary just enough between brands to cause a real problem.

Holy cow, a 3-inch nail went all the way through treated lumber? That's insane! I would've had a heart attack seeing that near a pipe. A tiny collar difference is all it takes, I guess. Makes me want to check my own gun now.
