Switched from my old speed square to a digital angle finder for crown molding
I used to spend forever measuring and marking angles with my speed square for crown molding cuts, and I'd still mess them up half the time. Last month, I finally grabbed a digital angle finder for $40 at Home Depot. I just set it on the corner, read the number, and transfer it to my saw. It cut my setup time from 15 minutes to about 3 per joint. First try came out perfect, no gaps. Has anyone else found a tool that made a specific job way less painful?

Respectfully, I still use my speed square because batteries die at the worst moments.

Pat, how often are you really losing power on the job?

Throw away the idea that you have to pick just one tool. A digital angle finder is great for finding the angle fast, but you still need a speed square to actually mark and cut. Nobody talks about using them together. I set the digital finder on the corner, write down the number, then pull out my speed square and pencil to lay out the cut. That way you get the speed of the digital tool and the reliability of your square without worrying about a dead battery making you useless. Did you keep your old speed square in your bag or does it just sit at home now?
