Chose the Kobalt trim puller over the cheap one from Harbor Freight

I had been using the $15 puller from Harbor Freight for like 6 months. It kept slipping on seams and I snapped the handle on a double glue down last week. Picked up the Kobalt one for $45 and it grabs way better. First job with it was a 12x15 bedroom and I saved maybe 20 minutes on the seam work alone. Anybody else found a tool upgrade that actually saved time?

Get that, man. Sorry you had a rough go with it, sounds frustrating.

Hold up, I gotta push back a little here. I actually had the exact opposite experience. I grabbed the Kobalt one thinking it was gonna be the answer to all my problems and it felt too heavy and awkward for tight corners. The grip was almost too aggressive and it chewed up a seam on some thinner commercial carpet. My buddy swears by his beat up Harbor Freight one he's had for years and it's never let him down. Seems like sometimes the cheap stuff is just simple enough that it's harder to mess up. Just my two cents, but I'd take a basic tool that works any day over paying extra for something that causes new headaches.

Honestly, that Kobalt puller is a total game changer compared to the cheap ones. Ngl, I was using a similar budget puller for a while and it was a pain, always slipping and bending. Tbh, I had to redo a whole hallway because it wouldn't grab the seam right and pulled the carpet wrong. Upgrading to something better saved my back and my time, just like you said. It's one of those tools where spending a little more actually pays off fast.
