Just learned how much carpet fiber weight can change the feel

I was reading an old trade magazine from 2018 and it said a 40 ounce per square yard nylon carpet feels way different underfoot than a 32 ounce one, even if the pile height looks the same. I always just went by the look and the price before, but this makes me want to pay more attention to the specs sheet. Do you guys check the fiber weight before you order for a job?

Specs are everything, right?

Yeah, I learned that the hard way on a job last year... the weight makes a huge difference in how long it lasts, not just the feel. I always check the specs now before I even look at a sample. It saves a lot of headaches later.

Totally agree about checking the specs first, @kevinallen. My buddy didn't do that for his cafe's menus. He picked a paper that felt great in hand, super thick and fancy. But they were folded, and within a week the creases were tearing from people opening and closing them. The paper was just too heavy for that kind of fold and daily use. He had to reprint the whole batch on a lighter card stock.
