Just realized you can cut carpet around a door jamb with a stair tool instead of pulling the whole thing
Had a bedroom in a 1920s house on Elm Street where the jamb was set so tight my kicker kept bouncing off it. Used a stair tool to tuck the carpet under the jamb without pulling the whole run, and it saved me a good 40 minutes on that room. Any of you old timers got a better trick for tight jambs, or is the stair tool the way to go?
A stair tool works for tucking, but it won't fix a jamb that tight, since the carpet still has to fit under there first. On a 1920s jamb like that I usually trim the bottom of the jamb with a flush cut saw or an oscillating tool so the carpet slides under clean. The stair tool is the right call for the tuck after that, it just isn't doing the part you're giving it credit for.
