Subfloor moisture check caught a nightmare in a Riverside condo yesterday

Guy had brand new padding laid over a slab that read 14% on my meter, called the HOA and they said it was fine, but 6 months from now that carpet is gonna mold out and stink, so has anyone else walked off a job over a moisture reading and felt bad about it after?

Used to be the type to just slap a moisture barrier down and keep it moving. Thought the meters were fine for rough checks but the HOA knew their building better than me. Then I came back to a job six months later to fix a door and the carpet tack strips were black with mold, smelled like a wet dog in there. Homeowner showed me the warranty claim paperwork and I realized my signature was all over the original install. Walked away from a similar slab last week and yeah, felt like a jerk for an hour, but sleeping fine now beats that.
