TIL a seam roller is not for stretching, took me 3 hours to figure that out

I was fighting a seamed hallway in a rental unit near Tacoma and kept tearing the backing because I was using the roller to force the seam together. Then an old timer watched me for 2 minutes and said 'it's for pressing, not pulling' and the whole job took 45 minutes after that. Anyone else waste a whole afternoon on a basic tool mistake like that?

Ha, that reminds me of my first time with a brake bleeder kit. I spent a whole Saturday trying to get air out of my truck's brakes, and I kept pumping the pedal like crazy with the valve open. Turns out you gotta close the valve before you release the pedal, or you just suck air right back in. Old timer at the auto parts store saw me looking defeated and just showed me real quick. After that, it took maybe 20 minutes total. It's wild how one little trick can save you hours, and now I always watch a video first before I touch a new tool.
