Got a client to pay by showing up at their office unannounced

So I had this guy who owed me $1,200 for 3 months. Emails, calls, nothing worked. Last Tuesday I drove over to his office in downtown Austin. Walked in, said hi to the receptionist. Client came out looking all surprised. Wrote me a check right there. Crazy how that still works in 2024. Has anyone else done the in person thing or am I just old school?

Well isn't that something. I guess there's still no substitute for looking someone in the eye and letting them know you haven't forgotten about that money. I can just imagine his face when you walked in, probably thought he was safe hiding behind his email inbox. Must've been a sweet moment watching him scramble for his checkbook. People tend to forget that debt is a personal thing, not just a number on a screen. Good for you for putting on your shoes and going down there, that's more than most folks would do these days.

People really do think hiding behind a screen means they're safe from old debts. You're right that there's nothing like looking someone in the eye to make it personal again. I'm glad you got your money back, that takes guts in this digital world.

Whoa, that's a bold move but honestly I bet that client respected you more for it after the initial shock wore off. Most people hide behind passive aggressive emails because they don't want the awkward face to face confrontation about money. You basically reminded them that business is still about human relationships, not just invoices in an inbox.
