Heard a client say 'the check is in the mail' for the fourth time this month
It was on a call with another vendor, and it just clicked that it's their standard stall tactic. How do you push back when you hear that line?

Look, sometimes the mail is just slow or someone in accounting dropped the ball. Jumping straight to calling it a stall feels a bit harsh. Maybe they mailed it from a different office, or the person you're talking to genuinely thinks it's gone out. You pushing hard on them might just make them avoid your calls. Give the process a minute to work before you assume bad faith.

Give the process a minute" is how you end up waiting 90 days for a check. I ask for a tracking number now, that cuts through the "maybe it's mailed" guesswork.

Ugh, my buddy waited six weeks for a "mailed" check. Turns out it was sitting in someone's inbox the whole time.

Haha, that "sitting in someone's inbox" bit hits close to home @green.laura. I once waited two months for a refund check, only to find out the guy had it in his desk drawer the whole time because he forgot to put a stamp on the envelope. I guess I'm the type of person who assumes everyone's as scatterbrained as I am, so I try to be patient. But honestly, after that I started asking for tracking numbers too, just to make sure I'm not the one leaving it in my own inbox.
