PSA: the wedding DJ in Reno taught me to get a deposit before the party, not after
Was at my cousin's wedding last June at a casino ballroom in Reno. The DJ shows up, sets up, does his thing, then at 10pm he grabs the mic and says into it, "Hey folks, before I play the last hour I need the balance settled, the groom knows the number." Whole room goes quiet. Groom turns red, digs out his card at the table, pays $450 right there in front of 120 people. DJ spins the last hour like nothing happened. I do small landscaping jobs and I had been letting folks pay me "whenever, no rush," which meant October invoices getting paid in January. Since that wedding I ask for 30 percent down before I even unload the trailer, and I say it plain on the first call. Two people have pushed back and one walked, and honestly good. Anyone got a smooth way to say the number without sounding like you don't trust them?
