Question about the $2,100 lesson I got at a Des Moines trade show booth
I was at a small business expo in Des Moines two years ago and watched a speaker ask the room who had unpaid invoices over 90 days old. About 40 hands went up out of 60 people. He then said something that stuck with me: 'Your problem is not the client, it is the 14 days you waited before the first follow up.' I had a $2,100 invoice sitting at 70 days back then, and I had sent exactly one email about it. I went home, called the client the next morning, and got paid in 4 days. Now I set a calendar reminder for day 7, day 21, and day 45 on every job, no matter how small. Has anyone else heard a number that made them change their whole follow up schedule?
