Saw a $1,200 plumbing invoice sit unpaid for 3 months before I finally drove to the guy's house and stood in his driveway
I was at a diner in Tulsa when I spotted the homeowner eating pancakes, so I walked up and asked if he forgot about the leak I fixed, and he pulled out his checkbook right there and paid me in full with a $50 late fee on top.

...and that's exactly what these deadbeats are waiting for, a little push. See, the problem is people think sending another text or invoice is gonna work, but it doesn't. They just ignore you until it's a real pain to keep ignoring you. You gotta show up, but do it smart, not like a crazy person. Pick a public spot if you can, or at least a time when other people are around. I've found that once they see your face, the checkbook comes out real fast, every single time.

The whole thing comes down to a simple truth most people forget - if you make ignoring you easy, they will. We live in a world where you can ghost a contractor, a dentist, or even a friend for months and nothing bad happens. Sending a text or an invoice is like shouting into a void, they can just swipe it away and forget. But the minute you show up in person, you become a real problem they have to deal with right then. Same thing happens at the grocery store when someone is blocking the whole aisle - you can stand there clearing your throat forever, but a simple "excuse me" always works. People just need that tiny bit of pressure to do the right thing.

Drove three hours to collect once and the guy acted like I was the one being unreasonable... guess I'm just not great at subtle hints. Ended up standing there holding my invoice like a lost puppy while he wrote the check. At least I got dinner out of it after stopping at the same diner he probably ate at.
