Surprised that a 1% late fee actually got results
I read a small business blog that said most freelancers wait 45 days before adding interest, so I tried a 1% monthly late fee on a $2,400 invoice from a client in Denver. They paid within a week, when the previous two invoices took 60 plus days. Has anyone else tested charging interest early, or do you think it risks ticking off a good client?

Ha, tried 2% after 30 days once. Client paid fast, no hard feelings.

Charging 2% after 30 days sounds aggressive for most gigs, is it really worth risking a client relationship over a month delay? Late fees usually just make people angry, not faster with payment, unless you're dealing with a repeat offender. Maybe you got lucky, but one good outcome doesn't make that a smart habit.
