I dropped $240 on a garlic peeler machine that sits in my pantry now
I want to warn you folks before someone else makes the same mistake I did. Back in March I was prepping for a 60 person dinner at the community center in Boise, and I got it in my head that a garlic peeler machine would save my wrists. I paid $240 for this thing that looked like a little drum, and it worked okay for maybe two heads of garlic before it started jamming up on the bigger cloves. I ended up pulling the skins off by hand anyway because it kept leaving half the paper on, and the drum was a pain to clean with all those little grooves. I did the math after and it cost me about four bucks a clove in time saved, which is a joke. My old chef from culinary school laughed when I showed him a picture and said he could do a whole case with a bowl and a shake. So now I'm asking, has anyone found a hand tool or a real method that actually speeds up garlic prep without gumming up on you?
