PSA: Stop peeling ginger with a spoon. Use the edge of a coffee cup instead.

I always hated peeling ginger. Tried a regular peeler, wasted half the ginger. Tried a spoon, took forever. Then a line cook at this diner in Portland showed me this trick last month. You just scrape the skin off with the thin edge of a ceramic mug. It’s way faster and you don’t lose as much flesh. Anyone else got a weird prep hack like this?

Oh man, did he use a chef's knife or something flimsy like a paring knife? I feel like a dull knife is way more dangerous than any method, honestly.

Friend of mine tried this and sliced their thumb open pretty bad.

Did they use a sharp enough knife though? Tbh half the time people hurt themselves cutting stuff it's because they're forcing a dull blade through and it slips. I've been doing the claw grip thing for years and the only time I ever got cut was when I was rushing and being careless. Ngl it's really about taking your time and keeping your fingers tucked in, not the method itself.
