Shoutout to the prep cook who saved my Saturday dinner service
Had a ticket printer meltdown at 5 PM last month during a 180-cover night, and my prep cook had already labeled and par-cooked every single component for the specials. Who else has had a BOH crew member bail them out of a disaster?

Joe's story about forgetting the backup printer is exactly the kind of thing that makes a good prep cook worth their weight in gold. They're the silent saviors who think three steps ahead while the rest of us are panicking over a broken machine or a missing ingredient. That double save is pure legend material, not just fixing the printer but also having everything organized so you didn't have to waste time figuring out what was prepped and what wasn't. It's the little details like labeling and par-cooking that turn a potential 86 into a smooth service. Every kitchen needs that one person who quietly handles the chaos before it even starts.

And my dumb ass forgot to plug the backup printer in so he saved my bacon twice.

I don't know man, it's just a backup printer. Feels like we're making this guy out to be Gordon Ramsay because he remembered to plug something in and wrote a date on some containers.
