Walk-in freezer door alarm at 4AM, no one told me about the sensor

Had a Saturday prep shift get wrecked because the walk-in freezer alarm went off at 4AM. Turns out the sensor battery died and the backup unit was bolted to the wall behind a stack of sheet pans. I spent 45 minutes pulling everything out, only to find the old owner had disabled the audible alarm and left a sticky note that said "check sensor monthly." Nobody passed that along when I took over the kitchen in March. Now I'm adding a weekly battery check to the opening list, but I need to know if anyone else has dealt with a silent fail like this. How do you keep track of backup sensors without trusting the old guy's sticky notes?

Wait, the old owner left a STICKY NOTE as the only warning and you were just supposed to find it behind a wall of sheet pans? That's not a system, that's a prank. I'd be livid if I spent 45 minutes pulling out frozen stock just to uncover someone's passive aggressive note from three years ago.
