Can we talk about how many people skip the smoke chamber when they clean?
I did a job in Lansing last Tuesday where the last sweep told the homeowner the flue was clean. I ran my camera up and found about an inch of creosote glaze coating the smoke chamber walls, plus a dead bird behind the damper. That shelf is where most of the heat sits and where a chimney fire likes to start, but a lot of guys just brush the flue and call it done. I spent 40 extra minutes scraping it down and the homeowner said nobody had ever touched that part in 12 years. The whole job was $260, and honestly the smoke chamber work was the part that mattered. Are you all pulling the damper and getting up in there, or is it just me?
