I finally stopped using wire brushes on clay flues
Honestly, I ran a job in Portland last month where I used the same stiff wire brush I've had for years. The homeowner's liner looked fine until the inspection camera showed these micro-scratches all over the clay. Swapped to a poly brush with a flexible shaft on the next two jobs, and the difference was night and day. The poly one grabs soot without gouging, and the flex lets me hit offsets without forcing pressure. Anybody else notice their old steel brushes leaving marks on older flues, or is it just me?
