My extension ladder slipped on a wet roof last Tuesday
Honestly, I was cleaning a chimney in the rain and didn't secure the feet properly. The whole thing slid about two feet before it caught on a gutter. Anyone have a good method for wet roof ladder setup?

You mentioning the ladder slipping on a wet roof really hits home. I used to just rely on the rubber feet and call it good, even in the rain. A roofer I know showed me to screw a couple of 2x4 blocks to the roof deck right behind the ladder feet as a stop. It sounds simple, but it completely changed how I feel about setting up on a wet surface. That little wooden block won't let the feet slide back at all. It takes an extra minute but it beats the scare you just had.

Ever worry about the screws pulling out if the wood is wet or rotten? I've seen blocks kick out when the decking underneath wasn't solid. Do you check the spot you're screwing into first?

Yeah that "extra minute" thing is so true for so much stuff. It's like we all know the safer way but talk ourselves out of it to save a tiny bit of time.
