Overheard a homeowner say sweeps are 'just vacuum guys with brushes'
Was on a job last Thursday in Portland, replacing a clay liner that had cracked in three places. The homeowner was on the phone with a friend, laughing about how anyone could do our work, no training needed. I stood there on their roof, 20 feet up in a harness, holding a 40-pound rotary kit, and just shook my head. That crack had been dumping carbon monoxide into their attic for who knows how long, and their 'vacuum guy' caught it before it got bad. I charged $380 for that repair, and they thanked me after, but the disrespect stuck with me. Has anyone else had a customer or bystander act like this trade is unskilled labor? How do you handle it without losing your cool?

Friend had a lady call him a glorified janitor too.

Had a lady once tell me her kid could do my job with a YouTube video, and I just smiled and handed her the invoice for the camera inspection that found her blocked flue. Like @fionanguyen said, folks love to call us janitors until their house smells like gas or their dryer starts taking two cycles. The trade speaks for itself, we just have to let the work do the talking.
