Picked poly flue brush over wire bristles for a tough job last week

Had this one chimney in an old house built in the 40s with heavy creosote buildup. I usually grab my stiff wire brush for stuff like that but I was worried about scratching up the clay liner. Went with a poly brush instead and ran it through about 8 times with some extra pressure. Took maybe 20 minutes longer than my usual wire brush method but the liner came out clean with no gouges. Anyone else switch brush types for older flues or am I overthinking this?

Yeah I was the same way, this one changed my mind for sure.

Spent an hour cleaning one last month, poly took forever but didn't chip the old terracotta.

Used to be pretty dismissive of poly on terracotta myself, figured it was always too risky or overkill. But hearing this makes me think maybe I was wrong, that extra time might just save a lot of headaches down the road. Might have to give it a shot on my next old tile project, see if the results stack up like yours did.
