A guy at a coffee shop in Reno told me my deposit was too low and now I never start work under 50%
He said 'if they wont put down half, they were never gonna pay the other half' and that stuck with me more than any advice I ever got. Now I walk away from anyone who pushes back on the 50% upfront, and honestly? The jobs I actually finish are way less stressful.

That Reno guy's 50% rule kills the change order problem too, since half up front means half for every add-on.
