Client asked for a revision, then ghosted me on $850 worth of work

Spent three weeks tweaking a logo for a guy in Phoenix who said he loved it, then he just stopped answering emails and texts completely, has anyone else had a client vanish mid-project like that?

Ah jeez, that's a real kick in the teeth. Reminds me of the time I spent a whole month hand-painting a mural for a coffee shop owner, she said she loved it, then her number got disconnected and the shop closed down a week later. I still drive by that empty building and see my work through the dusty windows. Sometimes people get cold feet or their money dries up and they just disappear like a bad magician's trick. You're not alone in this, it sucks but at least you got the experience of learning what kind of red flags to watch for next time.

Man that mural story hits hard. Seeing your own work sitting there abandoned through dirty glass is a special kind of gut punch. The disappearing act is way too common with small business owners especially. They get starry eyed about a project then reality hits and they ghost everyone. At least you learned something about payment schedules and maybe getting a deposit upfront. Still stings though no matter how you slice it.

Is it really that serious though? The artist got paid something for it right, or at least got materials covered? People ghost all the time in every business, not just art. A coffee shop closing down after a month isn't some deep betrayal, it's just bad luck with money. Driving by to stare at your old work through a window feels a little dramatic, I've seen artists leave half finished projects in alleys for years. Maybe the owner's number got disconnected because they couldn't pay their phone bill, not because they were running from some grand artistic debt. Sometimes we make these things into bigger life lessons when really it's just a normal business risk that didn't pay off.
