Had a client ask for a 'quick fix' on a furnace that was clearly a full replacement job

Got a call about a furnace not heating, went out to a house in the suburbs. The heat exchanger was cracked, which is a major safety issue and means a whole new unit. When I explained it, the homeowner got super pushy, saying 'just weld it or something, I don't want to pay for a new one.' That's a huge red flag for someone who won't listen to safety advice and will probably fight the invoice. Anyone else had a client try to pressure you into an unsafe repair to save money?

Yikes. My welding skills are why I'm here, @luna261.

Brought my car to a shop once and the guy spent 20 minutes telling me about his neighbor's boat engine rebuild (which had nothing to do with my alternator). Sometimes you just have to nod along and hope they get around to fixing your actual problem. I'd take a repair shop story over a failed weld any day.

Honestly, sometimes people just can't afford a whole new unit right now.

Totally get that! I fixed my old unit with a cheap part from a local repair shop. It bought me another year to save up for a replacement.
