I finally looked up how many small business owners in my county have been sued for non-payment in the last year. The number was 47.

Had a similar scare last year. Started putting every single client agreement in writing, even for small jobs. It's a pain but it cuts down on "he said, she said" later. The local business center ran a free workshop on basic contracts that saved my skin.

Honestly, seeing that number is what finally got me to use a down payment system. I used to just send the full bill after the work was done and got burned a few times. Now I take half up front before I even start. It filters out the bad clients right away. Tbh it was awkward at first to ask for it, but it completely changed my cash flow and stopped those non-payment headaches.

Abby how much did you lose before you started asking for half down?

Wait, that's just in one county? That seems way too high for a single year. Makes you wonder what's going on with the local economy.
