So I just spent 8 hours on a free 'consultation' for a guy who kept saying 'money's no object'

That line about the client's time being the investment reminded me of a friend who did a huge free sample for a "big opportunity." The client just took her ideas and ghosted, so her real investment was all the work she gave away for free. It's not about their time, it's about your work they get to keep.

That client's time was your real investment.

Honestly that take feels way off base. Tbh the real investment is your own skill and the tools you bring to the table. Their time is just one part of the deal, not the main thing you're putting in. Ngl, if the client's time was the only real investment, then any beginner could deliver the same value as an expert, which makes no sense. The whole point is that your expertise makes their time spent worthwhile. Framing it like that totally misses where the actual work and value comes from.
