That client who asked for 'a few small tweaks' right before final delivery suddenly had 47 edits waiting for me this morning.

Last month in Austin, I had a branding project where the client said tweaks would take 10 minutes, but after three rounds of revisions (and no extra payment) I realized the real red flag was how they kept adding new requests after each change, so has anyone else dealt with a client who hides their real workload in vague promises?

47 edits after 'a few tweaks' taught me vague promises always mean way more work.

Call that guy out on it immediately. I had one who said "just a few small things" and then sent a 30 page PDF with notes on every single element. After the first round of fixes they started asking for whole new sections like it was no big deal. I finally sent them a fresh quote for the extra work and they got real quiet real fast. Set a hard limit on revisions from day one or they will run you into the ground.

and then they act like you're the one being unreasonable when you push back. i had a client last year who said "just a quick polish" before final delivery and it turned into 42 specific font size changes, color palette overhauls, and rewriting 3 sections of copy from scratch. the worst part is they kept adding stuff after each fix, like "oh since you're already in there, can you also..." and i was too nice to say no. learned my lesson hard, now i always put a clause in the contract that says any changes after the first round cost extra.
