The client who asked for a 'quick estimate' on a 50 page site then ghosted me for 3 weeks knows exactly what they're doing.

Last month a startup founder in Austin kept saying 'it's just a simple site' while adding 17 new features every call, and after I spent 4 hours on a detailed proposal they told me they'd 'think about it' and never replied to a single email again, has anyone else noticed that the ones who rush you the most are the ones who never pay?

It's the same pattern everywhere, like when someone at the grocery store cuts in front of you and then takes forever to pick out their avocados. People who demand the most urgency are usually the least prepared to follow through themselves. The rush is just a way to get you to drop everything for them, not a sign they actually value your time.

I started telling people "I'll check my schedule and get back to you tomorrow" when they hit me with the urgent stuff. Nine times out of ten they either figure it out themselves or the problem wasn't actually that urgent. The ones who really need help are fine waiting a day, the ones who just want you to drop everything usually disappear.

52% of my late-paying clients started with "quick estimate.
