The 'quick question' client who never sends the specs doc

Tbh I had a client last month in Austin who kept asking for 'just a quick question' over email, then ghosted me for 4 days before dropping a 30 page requirements doc. I found out they'd done the same thing to two other freelancers in my network, and neither got paid on time. The red flag for me was when they asked for a discount before even sharing the project brief, that's when I knew to walk. They finally sent a $500 deposit after 3 weeks of chasing, but the scope had already doubled. Has anyone else gotten that 'quick question' energy from a client and then watched the whole timeline slip? I'd rather miss a job than deal with that again.
