Unpopular opinion: The 'quick chat' before a contract is the biggest warning sign

I used to think a 15 minute call was just being friendly, but after a guy in Phoenix spent 45 minutes grilling me on pricing details without signing anything, I saw the pattern. That 'free advice' session always means they're shopping around, not hiring. Anyone else cut off those calls after ten minutes?

Totally agree, it's just fishing for quotes. I shut it down fast now.

Yeah, it's like the cold call version of small talk. Everyone's just trying to get something from you now.

Exactly, @skyler_patel I had the same problem until I started saying "I don't do interviews" right off the bat. Keeps them from even trying to turn the convo into a quote hunt. Works way better than trying to steer it back mid talk.

So what's your actual cutoff time now?
