Vent: A potential client in Seattle offered me $500 for a full brand package.

They said they'd pay the rest after seeing 'how it performed' in the market. I learned to always get the full scope and payment terms in writing before starting any creative work. Anyone else had a client try to tie final payment to results they can't control?

Oh man that's a huge red flag. I had a guy want me to install his floors but only pay half up front, then the rest "if his house sold faster." Like I control the real estate market? Nope. Good on you for getting everything in writing first, that's the only way to do it. Some clients really think we can work magic beyond our actual job.

Honestly, "if his house sold faster" is wild. I had a client try to tie final payment to their kid's college acceptance once.

My buddy's client tried to pay him with a free boat ride.
