Why does nobody talk about the 'quick logo' that needs 50 rounds of changes?
Had a client reach out for a 'simple logo', said they had a clear vision. Sent over a mood board with 10 images that were all over the place. I gave them a solid first draft in 2 days, and they came back with 'just a few tweaks'. Those tweaks turned into a complete redesign, then back to something close to the first draft, then a new color scheme, then back again. This went on for 6 weeks. The final invoice was for the original flat fee, but I easily put in 3 times the hours. They paid, but it felt like pulling teeth and I lost two other potential jobs because I was stuck in revision hell. Has anyone else had a client who uses 'tweaks' to basically get unlimited work for a fixed price?

My buddy had a client ask for a "fast" website banner... they kept asking for tiny changes that added up to a full rebuild. It got so bad he started charging by the hour for any work past the first two rounds... seems like the only way to stop that kind of thing sometimes.

Charging hourly after two rounds is the only way to keep those "fast" jobs from blowing up.
