Bought a $40 rain barrel and my water bill actually dropped

I thought they were just a gimmick but after 3 months of using it to water my garden my quarterly bill went down $12. Has anyone else seen real savings from one of these things?

Actually got one for free off Craigslist and my wife started using the water for her flower beds instead of the hose. Now she's got me checking the damn thing every time it rains to make sure it's not overflowing.

Does @abbyf79 have a overflow hose rigged up to a drain?

@evan_grant70 nailed it with the overflow question. Same setup here - just ran a cheap hose from the overflow spout to my flower bed drain. Keeps the foundation dry and the water bill down.
