Can we talk about how my new heat pump completely froze over last Tuesday when it was only 40 degrees out?

The installer said it was rated for my Michigan winter, but I spent 3 hours trying to defrost the outdoor unit with a hairdryer before calling for a service that cost me $200, so what's the point of switching from gas if the new tech can't handle a mild chill?

My buddy's unit iced up from a stuck sensor.

Check the defrost cycle settings, mine was set wrong from the install. Also make sure nothing's blocking airflow around the unit, that'll cause it to ice up too.

Honestly seems like overkill to jump straight into the settings. Most times it's just dirty filters or a fan acting up. Seen a lot of units ice over from simple stuff like that before you need to mess with cycles.
