Heat pump install in January taught me to check the manual first

I swapped my gas furnace for a heat pump in Portland last year and immediately panicked when the house stayed at 58 degrees for two days. The installer kept saying it was normal for the first big cold snap, but I did a deep dive online and found the real trick: the defrost cycle was set to factory defaults that don't work below 35 degrees here. All it took was adjusting the coil temp threshold in the service menu, something the manual buried on page 42. My electric bill dropped from $280 to $190 a month after that, and the house finally holds 68. Anyone else had to fiddle with hidden settings just to make a heat pump work in a wet, cold climate? I'm wondering if I missed other tweaks that could cut my usage more.
