I thought electric cars were just a fad for rich people

My neighbor got a used Nissan Leaf about two years ago and let me drive it. I was sure the battery would be dead in a few years. But he showed me his charging app, and he's spent maybe $400 on electricity for it in that whole time, compared to the $2,500 I spent on gas for my sedan. The math just clicked for me. It's not just about the new, expensive models. Has anyone else made the switch with a used electric car and been surprised?

My buddy did the same thing with a used Ford Focus Electric. He paid less than my last used car, and his "fuel" bill is basically nothing. It's the regular people buying these older electric cars that prove they work. The math is just impossible to argue with once you see it up close.

Saw a video where a guy bought a used Chevy Bolt for cheap. He drives it for work and barely pays anything to charge it. Totally changed my mind about older electric cars.

Yeah, that "math is impossible to argue with" part is so true. It just clicks when you see the real numbers.

My old apartment complex in Phoenix finally put in a few chargers last year. That was the real game changer for renters like me, because before that I just assumed I needed a house to own an electric car. Got a used Leaf for eight grand and my landlord was cool with me using the new spots. The charging cost is nothing, but getting that charging access where you live is the hidden key nobody talks about.
