Just hit 1,000 miles on my cargo bike in 8 months

I started hauling tools and pipe fittings on a cheap cargo bike last spring to skip the truck for small jobs around Portland. Yesterday the odometer showed 1,000 miles, which sounds tiny compared to car mileage but it meant about 300 fewer engine trips. My crew thought I was nuts at first, but we save on gas and parking tickets, plus I skip the worst downtown traffic. The real surprise was the maintenance cost, only one tire patch and a chain lube, versus the oil changes and brake pads the truck eats. Anyone else tracking a milestone like this for their work commute or deliveries?

Is 1,000 miles really something to brag about? I mean, my cousin rides his bike to the bar every weekend and probably hits that in half the time. That said, skipping downtown traffic is a solid win, I'll give you that. But you're also forgetting the rain and the cold, wait until February hits and you're hauling pipe fittings in a downpour. The maintenance thing is cute now, but give it another 1,000 miles and see if that chain holds up.
