My garden hose epiphany last Tuesday

I was watering my veggie patch in Phoenix and the old hose connector just snapped, spraying water everywhere for like 10 minutes before I got the main valve off. I realized I'd been using this cheap plastic piece for 5 years, constantly replacing it, which is so much waste. I went to the hardware store and got a solid brass one for $12 that should last forever. It made me think about all the little plastic junk we buy without a second thought. Has anyone else swapped out a bunch of small, breakable stuff in their house for longer-lasting versions?

That solid brass connector is the way to go. I made the same switch a while back and it's still perfect, no more cracked plastic in the summer heat. It's worth checking all your outdoor connections, the cheap spray gun triggers are usually the next thing to fail.

Ever try those stainless steel hose washers? They're a total game changer for leaks.

My buddy had a leaky hose connection for years and kept buying those rubber washers. Did he finally get the steel ones? Yeah, after his basement floor got a surprise watering. He swapped them in and hasn't had a single drip since, he said it was the easiest fix ever.
