My neighbor's kid made me rethink how I look at my gas lawn mower
I was out trimming the yard last Sunday and this 14 year old kid from down the street came over and asked why I still burn gas when electric mowers work fine now. He showed me a video of how much carbon a small engine kicks out per hour and I gotta admit it hit different seeing the numbers laid out like that. Has anyone here made the switch to electric and actually seen a difference in their power bill?

Yeah the "kicked out per hour" thing hits different when you actually see it. I got an electric mower last year and honestly the power bill thing is negligible for me but what got me was how quiet it is. My neighbor's dog used to lose its mind every time I fired up the gas one and now it just watches me like I'm weird from the deck.

It's funny you mention the dog thing because my cat went through a whole personality change when I switched. I used to have to lock her inside when I mowed because the gas mower sent her into full panic mode, you know, hiding under the bed for hours after. Now with the electric mower, she just sits on the porch watching me like I'm putting on a show for her, squinting like she's judging my form or something. Actually makes me feel a little self-conscious, like I'm being graded on my mowing technique by a feline critic. But honestly, the quiet is the best part - I can actually hear birds singing while I'm cutting grass, which is wild considering I live in the suburbs. Makes the chore feel less like a chore and more like a weird ritual I do every other week.

@the_drew WAIT the DOG just sits there and watches now?! That is ACTUALLY wild. I always figured dogs hated the noise but never thought they'd just chill out like that. Maybe I need to consider electric just for the peace and quiet factor alone.
